Where You Should Want Dante to go in Tonight's NBA Draft

The draft is only a few hours away and we all want to wish Dante the best of luck wherever he ends up, but that doesn't mean you can't pull for him to go to one of these teams:
  1. New York Knickerbockers - Why? Well the Knicks are a team in transition (hopefully for the better) and they look to be big players in free agency in the next couple of years. You know what sways superstars after the point of playing in the New York market has been beaten to death? The idea of winning. The Knicks have not been able to offer that much in the past years, but young talented role players that come from a winning tradition are the start to that foundation (read Dante Cunningham coming from Jay wright's magnificently coached Villanova teams the past four years).
  2. Washington Wizards - 'Te is from Maryland and its always nice to come home and play for a competitive team. I know the Wizards were stymied by an injure Gilbert Arenas for much of last year, but with the recent arrival of former teammate Randy foye as well--any Wildcat fan without a favorite pro team will need to look no further.
  3. Philadelphia 76ers - The more Cunningham the average Villanova sports fan can see on a daily basis the better.
  4. Houston Rockets - A team definitely on the rise with a good showing in the playoffs last year that could use the young and talented Dante. Also, for those who would like to apply the "root for as many wildcats at once" doctrine that I invoked in my reasoning for the Wizards pick can do the same here with the tenacious Kyle Lowry likely to see more minutes this year.
  5. ??? - I don't know much about the NBA so my picks could be way off. Tell us where Dante will fit in well and see some time early on. Tell us what's your favorite team and if you hope he goes there. I really don't have much more of a clue, but I'll root for the Knicks or the team that gets Ricky Rubio to also get Dante. I'm a fan of Spain (yes that means I am licking my wounds from yesterday's Confederate Cup loss) so pearing him up with a Spaniard is what I like to see.

Soapbox: Five Reasons to go to Villanova Football Games This Season

Yes, Villanova has an incredible tradition of basketball and are on a hot streak that doesn't appear to be cooling down any time soon. The football team at Villanova has built up a pretty decent tradition as well. I know we aren't top flight "1-A" or "FBS", but The CAA brings a pretty exciting breed of football right to the Main Line. Of course the most visible example of our prowess on the gridiron is a certain All-Pro Eagles Running Back by the name of Brian Westbrook. If you dig back deeper, there is Pro Football Hall of Famer Howie Long of course. Attendance at our football games is shitty at best so I thought I'd try to convince all six of our readers to attend some games this coming fall and give five reasons why you should attend.

  1. Last Season- Last season the cats made a run all the way to the quarterfinals of the playoffs where they were beaten by a team led by superman. They return the core of that team including the starting quarterback, running back, four players on the offensive line and two of the three starting receivers. In total, 16 starters return, including the punter.
  2. Matt Szczur- I've been watching Villanova football for over ten years and there has only been one player to come close to the excitement provided by Brian Westbrook. His name is Matt Szczur. Szczur accounted for touchdowns rushing, returning kicks, receiving and passing last year. He's the best special teams player on the team and also is one hell of a baseball player (he was drafted by the Dodgers out of high school.)
  3. The Delaware Game- Villanova and Delaware is a "rivalry" I use quotes because its not really viewed as one by anyone but the most hardcore of Villanova fans. The 'Cats are on a three game win streak against the Blue Hens including beating current Baltimore Ravens Quarterback Joe Flacco in his Junior and Senior seasons. This season, Delaware has yet another transfer quarterback who has big things on the horizon in former Penn State Nittany Lion Pat Devlin. Delaware always outnumbers Villanova in fans at this game, so if you go to one game.. make it the UD game.
  4. We're Fucking GOOD- Every single preseason poll issued so far has the 'Cats in the top 5 and if we beat temple this year at Lincoln Financial Field to start the season, we could very well be the number one team in the country a couple weeks into the season.
  5. Defense- Villanova used to pride itself in its offense, but the past two seasons, we've used an attacking, blitzing style of defense that absolutely kills a teams running game. With only a couple of losses on the defensive side of the ball, look for the defense to make another stride in the right direction.

This calls for some celebration

So as we've all heard by now, Scottie is coming back for his senior year at Villanova, to hopefully lead the Wildcats back to the Final Four for the second year in a row, and maybe even have a shot at the National Championship. Whatever Fact may say about Scottie coming back, I think its a great thing for the team. Scottie is the only true leader we have right now, and we need him to help bring the younger guys into Villanova Basketball. So I really do think we should be celebrating Scottie's return, the only way I know how. Take it away T-pai...wait everything is better A Capella, Cue the Music..

He's Baaaaaaaaaaaack

Scottie decided to come back to school for his senior season instead of staying in the NBA Draft. This is very good news for our team next year. I'm leaving the country in like 3 hours so i have to go.
