Dumb Idea Hall of Fame: Preseason Game at The Wells Fargo Center

don't waste your time or your money
Exhibition games of any kind in any sport are undoubtedly the worst type of sporting event on earth.  What makes them worse is the fact that teams generally charge full price for them.

Don't get me wrong, I have no problem with Villanova's desire to have a couple exhibition games on their schedule to warm the team up for the upcoming season.  What I do have a problem with is charging 25 bucks for the game and playing it at the CoreStates First Union Wachovia Wells Fargo Center.  What the hell is wrong with The Pavilion? This is just a desperate grab on behalf of the athletic department to try to earn some extra money, and it probably won't even work.

  1. Actually...the Student sections on both sides of the WFC were sold out...we would never have been able to accommodate that many students at the Pavilion. Furthermore, Villanova is running a charity on the event which allows underprivileged people in Philadelphia to watch Villanova play - for free...the WFC was the only venue that would accommodate all of the above - its also the only viable venue for holding a charity function like the one i described.

  2. the student section can't be "sold out" because student tickets are free. charity is nice, but last i checked this is a basketball team, not best buddies.

  3. By "sold out" I mean that more students entered the lottery than there were tickets available. As a senior at Nova, I was put on the wait list for tickets (#260) - luckily a friend transferred me a ticket. The way I see it, the students are exited for the season to begin and the administration wanted to provide a venue that could accommodate all of us.

  4. fair enough.. i just think that this game would be better suited on campus simply because it's just better that way unless you know that 15,000+ are going to show up. Competition for tickets isn't necessarily a bad thing.

  6. There was QB who played for Villanova back in the 70"s I thinmk who had held all kinds of passing records, does anyone know his name. I think his first name was Bill?
