Lost in the Mix: The Villanova Women are Really Good

Senior Laura Sweeney

Did you know that there's a basketball team on the Villanova campus that has lost only one time all season and has an RPI of 16? Well they exist, and they're all girls. Yep, Harry Perretta's team is 8-1 this season, playing with all the characteristics of a normal Villanova women's team: not much scoring, good defense, and a shooting a ton of three pointers, almost 23 a game.

The major difference between the Villanova women and men this season? The women make their threes, converting on 36% of their attempts, and defend the three well, forcing their opponents to shoot a paltry 25% from the perimeter. Now they don't score a lot of points, but you don't need to when you use up most of the shot clock and allow less than 50 points a game.

Do them a favor and make it to a game sometime.

  1. Been to 3 so far, best fundamental basketball I've seen in a long time. It may not be as exciting or fun to watch as say a flashy run and gun Duke/UNC match-up, but they're high quality games.

It's the type of basketball that would make your old 5th grade CYO basketball coach proud
