Refs, Turnovers Kill Villanova at Providence

Villanova played a beatable Providence team today. Unfortunately, they turned the ball over way too much, were playing five against eight, and wound up losing 69-66. Normally I don't complain about officiating, but  when a regulation game takes more than two and half hours to complete, and there are over 50 fouls called, then it is absolutely excessive, and therefore I am willing to talk about it. From the beginning of the game, Providence held a consistent advantage in the free throw department, and Villanova was able to hold a lead because of PC's ineptitude on that front. Unfortunately, they started making them at a decent clip and Villanova only shot about 68% from the line themselves.

Ironically, this was a game where Villanova shot inordinately well in every area, other than the foul line of course. With the exception of three players, they shot really well, with Mouphtaou Yarou, Tony Chennault, and James Bell combining for an abysmal 2-16. The rest of the team went 20-33, including JayVaughn Pinkston, who had 20 points on 8-10 shooting.

But yeah, sloppy play, with some home cooking does not bode well for success.
