Leading up to the opening game of the Villanova football season on August 29 against Syracuse, Fact on Villanova Sports will be counting down the days between now and the beginning of the football season using the jersey numbers of Villanova football players of the past and present. For as many numbers as possible, effort will be taken to introduce players from the current team, with the exception of "important" players from the past. Also, it's a ton of work to get pictures of all the players, so it may be incomplete. Oh well.
In just two seasons as the starting quarterback for the Villanova football team, John Robertson has established himself as one of the greatest offensive weapons in team history, becoming the first Villanova quarterback to rush for 1,000 yards or more in his freshman year, and only the second Villanova player in history to rush for 1,000 yards more than once last season, his sophomore year. With 2,427 career rushing yards, Robertson is already fourth in school history in rushing yardage, less than 500 yards behind the second placer, Aaron Ball. In addition, Robertson is an extremely efficient passer, setting a school record in 2013 with a 68.1% completion percentage.
What Villanova does this season is largely on the arm and legs of John Robertson.
