Villanova football season countdown: 25 is for...

Leading up to the opening game of the Villanova football season on August 29 against Syracuse, Fact on Villanova Sports will be counting down the days between now and the beginning of the football season using the jersey numbers of Villanova football players of the past and present. For as many numbers as possible, effort will be taken to introduce players from the current team, with the exception of "important" players from the past. Also, it's a ton of work to get pictures of all the players, so it may be incomplete. Oh well.

Brian Finneran

Wide Receiver: 1994-1997

If you use statistics as a basis, Brian Finneran is quite simply the greatest wide receiver in Villanova history. 16 years after his graduation, Finneran is still atop the Villanova career list in career receptions, receiving yards, and receiving touchdowns. In his senior season of 1997, he caught 96 passes for 1,389 yards and 17 touchdowns, (the latter two of which are still school records) en route to being the first, and as of this writing only wide receiver to ever win the 1997 Walter Payton Award as the best player in I-AA football. After he left Villanova,  he spent some time in NFL Europe with the Barcelona Dragons, and then with the Seahawks and Eagles before settling on the Falcons, for which he played for ten seasons until he was not re-signed earlier this season.

A year ago,  he was named to the Madden All-25 team based on his dominance in Madden 04, so video game legend is another item on his CV.

Career Stats:
265 Receptions
3,872 Yards
34 Touchdowns
